eBay Germany users hit by new social engineering phishing email

Ebay customers in Germany may be especially confused as a new phishing e-mail landed in their inbox yesterday. The message itself claims that a direct debit order could not be processed and asks users to double check their account details and enter the correct details.

The e-mail body as such is not harmful, however looks authentic with original Ebay hyperlinks. On execution of the attachment (‘bill.exe’), a malicious code is downloaded which hides in the background yet displaying a PDF file.

Since the beginning of 2007, web and e-mail users have had to practice patience. During the first days of the year, users were inundated by spam e-mails claiming to be typical household bills such as TV tax bills...
