Study: 42% of Internet users Aged 10-17 have seen online Porn

A new study showed that 42 percent of Internet users, aged 10 to 17, said they came across some form of online pornography in a recent 12-month span. Although the majority of kids reporting viewing online pornography were in their teen years, a sizable numbers of preteens, mostly 10- and 11-year-olds, also had been exposed to the sexual images...

"Internet providers and host sites need to do more to protect youth from unwanted pornography," Janis Wolak, one of the authors of the study, said. "They need better filtering and blocking and more and easier ways for youth to report problems."...

The online activity that put kids at the highest risk for unwanted exposure to pornography was the use of file-sharing programs to download images. However, most children had also stumbled onto X-rated images through other "normal" Internet use, according to the researchers....

Most boys who used to be age 10 - 17 have copped their daddy's porn mags (or a friend's dad's) at some point. LOL.

Although the porn on the net is worse than porn mags used to be. :

Personally, while I am not a fan of net porn, I would rather my son view porn than some of the other stuff available for viewing. Like hate sites, sites promoting war, sites promoting the current admin's agenda, sites with videos depicting the beheading of an American by a terrorist (which he did see   )

I agree. Bodies are bodies. We all have them. Hate is deeper and goes beyond sectional views of morality and nudity.

I agree. And additionally, adults invent these filters. 16-year-olds are in general more tech savvy than many programmers. They have grown up with this stuff and are pretty much fully aware of how to access anything. :
Besides that, probably many of them are not using filters at all. Their parents are not installing them.
IMO, it is the responsibility of parents to monitor their children's internet activities and to install filters when needed. It is not the collective responsibility of the net.

When my son was 15 he assured me that I did not need to install a filter. I, being a trusting fool, believed him---it had never been an issue, and I had always monitored his internet activity.
Until one day I walked in to his room and saw the porn on his monitor.

I then changed his access permissions in the Norton program and so far, it has done an excellent job. He doesn't bother to complain anymore.
