Original graphite sketch. An ancient Chinese Taoist / Buddhist Monk exist in a surreal landscape. Carefully pre-matted using acid and lingin-free archival quality matting materials.

Background:
This original sketch captures a mysterious young monk from an ancient era, pausing from his lifelong journey to contemplate a sphere on a string. Is that tiny globe the Earth itself? Is it a representation of all things circular, balanced, and whole?

With a gentle, knowing grin, the monk watches those who watch him. A mandala (an ancient Buddhist and Hindu symbol representing all life and the universe in poetic connection) hovers behind him as clouds drift just beyond. He wears the flowing travel robes of a Taoist master and the clouds themselves lead one to think he may be more than meets the eye...
