Yes, all the neat tricks Microsoft's been claiming give its Windows Vista that oh-so-cool 'wow' factor have been on the Mac for ages. Flip-through-your-windows technology. Smart folders. Bundled email, calendar and contacts apps. Translucent windows. Buttons that look shiny. Pop-up on-screen applets. Automatic data encryption. Bundled chess game. Been there, seen it, done it.

And there's no Mac OS X Basic with all the cool stuff turned off, thank you.

Apple has Boot Camp, Parallels has Parallels Desktop, VMWare has Fusion - and they all let you run Windows on an Intel-based Mac...

Both of my brothers have Macs, my niece uses Macs, almost every creative type that I know uses a Mac............but, I don't, sadly.
I don't use a Mac primarily because I don't want to cough up the big $, secondarily because I am not keen to learn a new operating system.

Color me envious of Mac owners.

Same for me though I enjoy the simplicity and familiarity of my older Windows OS. Have three friends that I know of right now that have gotten new computers recently and every one of them is disgusted with Vista. I asked about getting a new computer with XP installed but they won't sell any that way and I guess you'd have to either use your old install disks to get rid of the Vista or go with a Mac, which is becoming more and more probable as the days pass....

Maybe one of these Linux platforms is the way to go? I haven't a clue beyond knowing I DON'T require or desire all the "bells and whistles".

Linspire is the easiest Linux to learn.  Ubuntu is the most popular desktop Llinux and is easier than other Linux distributions.

Xandros Home Edition Premium and Xandros Professional are Linux distros designed for Windows users.  They can run Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, and many other Windows programs.
