Google Checkout Now Available in the UK

We're excited to tell you that as of this morning, the speed, security and convenience of Google Checkout are available to online shops and shoppers in the United Kingdom.

In the United States, thousands of sellers and millions of buyers have already taken advantage of this exciting new checkout process. Now, shops in the UK can offer Google Checkout to their customers and benefit from increased sales, higher conversion rates, and lower transaction processing costs. From now until 2008, merchants that offer Checkout in the UK will receive free transaction processing for all of their Checkout sales. And just so buyers don't feel left out, we're giving them £10 off all orders over £30.

The UK is an important move for Checkout because it's already Google's second-largest market outside the U.S. The region is also a place where eBay and PayPal have a long-established presence. Other payment services have found traction in the UK as well -- Neteller being one example -- possibly suggesting that consumers there will be more likely to adopt the payment service...

Here are a few emails we've received from UK Checkout users:

    Google checkout is having major problems transferring money into people's bank accounts. They are ignoring emails and refusing to do comment or acknowledge the matter. I myself have 14,500 pounds stuck in google since the 21st of May and i am not alone. a quick look at their forums shows it's quite widespread.
