The rules of the road were fairly clear to Kevin Rose, founder of Digg, until this week. Users generally were given free rein, except when they violated the site's terms of use -- for example, by linking to porn or racial hate sites, or to illegal downloads. Recent events have thrown Rose off his stride, though...

Users who railed against the removal of information posted on the popular social networking site Digg may have won a round, as the company has given up on trying to control the angry mob. It's far from clear, though, who will emerge victorious when the dust settles. Digg may find itself in legal trouble that could force the entire operation to shut down....

I agree with Digg's original decision.  I think the news that the encryption key had been cracked should have been reported, but I think it was wrong to violate the IP of the owners by publishing the actual key code.

We had a similar situation today when we learned that there is a major security hole in the RScript software that Wagglepop uses.  Mandy chose to report the existence of the hole but she withheld all details on how to exploit the hole because she didn't want the knowledge falling into the wrong hands.
