The emergence of RSS and Atom feeds has created a new way of sharing content with the world. Until now, finding a way to monetize these feeds was a difficult task. Without the need for users to visit the feed site, publishers were gaining eyes but were decreasing ad coverage. The solution arrived with the release of AdSense for feeds, a way of inserting relevant Google ads into RSS and Atom feeds. In order to participate in the beta testing your RSS (or Atom) feed needs at least 100 subscribers.

Google recently filed for a patent for adverts in RSS feeds

Just like AdSense, the RSS feed adverts are another instance of google using someone else's idea and trying to take the credit.

...Although the technique has been used by other parties for almost two years, they don't appear to have protected the practice.
