Why Hasn't My Site Been Accepted Into DMOZ?
Quote:DMOZ is not set up as a listing service for site owners. Site submissions are only one source for finding quality sites to add to the directory. Some editors choose to review submissions while other editors might prefer to (at first) find sites on their own through search engines, as links from related sites, in newspapers, on television, on highway billboards, etc. So...there are no guarantees that once you submit your site it will be reviewed within a specific amount of time. full article: http://blog.dmoz.org/2007/10/08/why-hasn...into-dmoz/

Re: Why Hasn't My Site Been Accepted Into DMOZ?
Quote:Why Hasn't My Site Been Accepted Into DMOZ? The next question is "Why should you care if your site isn't in DMOZ?". I don't think DMOZ, or directories in general, are nearly as important as they were 6-7 years ago. As far as traffic, unlike the Yahoo Directory, DMOZ has never been a great driver of traffic to sites (we have several sites that have been in both directories for 7+ years).
"Well, Jay was so giddy that someone named Jay was involved with this site we posted our first non-eBay listing in 3 years here at Lunarbid (we tried two items at Yahoo once upon a time, they bombed)" -Marie posting in a LunarBid thread at OTWA in 2005 wins the award for 'most moronic reason ever given for choosing a venue"
"thanks twat u must have nothing better 2 do. do u talk to all your members like that. will not be recomending your site. best way to put it is TULIPTOOLS.COM IS REALLY SHIT. DONT JOIN." -pubescent owner of rinky dink off2auction.com in 2011 |

Re: Why Hasn't My Site Been Accepted Into DMOZ?
Simply put, there are millions of good sites (even GREAT ones!) that aren't in DMOZ. The very nature of how they operate is doomed to fail, IMO. Example of a great site that isn't included in DMOZ: http://www.tigerdirect.com (they've been around since the early 90's) The internet is growing much faster than they are adding good editors to add sites. 'Twas a good idea at first, and even semi-recently... but as Google (et al) improves its search, the value of a human edited directory that is far from "complete" continues to decline. Cheers ***For the record, our site was first suggested in June or July 2005 and we still lack an entry in DMOZ*** |

Search is the #1 way to find sites for all age groups. For the under 25 age group social networking sites not directories are the second most popular way. |
