You know thats about the same time many of us started seeing our sales drop at the bay.
I was still selling a bit on Yahoo and on my site but ebays sales just really started to take a dive around then.
I spent a few months doing what I think many did. Trying all kinds of different price formulations, dressing up our auctions, adding different products or lines or products.
All kinds of stuff.
All thinking it was us. I started poking around and found the Community Boards.
Like most others Ive talked too back then, many of us didnt
even know they were there or never paid attention to them.
But once things started going downhill I guess it is in all our natures to try and find out why right?
Well low and behold the Tech. Boards were full of all kinds of problems then and Poed users (if not before then) and ebay was and still is messing with categories and adding features left and right and still pizzing off users all the time.
I remember when they enlarged their headers to the point that all our information on any given auction page was way down the screen and a customer would have to scroll down to see what we had for sale.
I remember one night showing my mom my ebay stuff.
She was sitting at her puter and when the page came up she just looked at it and said
where is your stuff?
I had to tell her she needed to scroll down with her mouse because ebay has changed how the pages look to viewers.
REMEMBER in the good old days when your pages came up YOUR stuff was right there to see?
(At least a very large portion of it was.
I remember wondering how many others went to ebay, loaded a page of someones stuff and just sat their not knowing they needed to scroll down to see what they were looking for and just clicked off the page and site because all they saw was all of ebays oversized (header) blather in their face and didnt know any better to actually hold down the left button on their mouse and grab the scroll bar on the right side of the screen and pull down on the mouse to actually see what they came there looking for in the first place.
I think just about all the changes ebay has made over the last few years
have no doubt been a detriment to all the users.
I also believe as a result of ebays endless changing of things and other factors
like rampant fraud etc.. they have run off a large segment of the buyers.
It is as if ebays tinkering crews have forget (or never learned)
one main thing about human nature.
IMO We are creatures of habit and we like things that are familiar and we like consistency.
We normalize our everyday lives from those things.
When things are always changing, then we tend to turn away or reject those changes
and look for something else that has the consistency that makes us feel comfortable
and once again normal.
Make any sense?
