UPS launches new shipping options for Canadian users of eBay

UPS today announced the
launch of package shipping services for Canadian eBay users, enabling them to
easily ship goods to buyers within or outside Canada via UPS.

By integrating UPS service options directly into the Canadian eBay site,
as is already the case on eBay's U.S. site, users will be able to ship within
Canada and internationally just with one click of their computer mouse.

The UPS shipping tools allow eBay sellers to calculate costs, request a
UPS pick-up, track shipments, review transit times and print shipping labels
all at the point of transaction. Both international and domestic UPS shipping
labels are available and can be paid for via PayPal, an online payment system.
Benefits to eBay buyers include the ability to control costs using the   
time-in-transit and service calculator tools to best determine which UPS
service to choose.

Too bad.

a) Fedex is way cheaper, Ground to the US from Canada is cheaper than the post office, and way faster too
b) There's no discounts offered
c) UPS is prohibitively expensive even when sending within Canada.  Sellers are bitching constantly about how the post office is too expensive, why would anyone want to use UPS at almost twice the price?  Well, unless you're shipping large orders, but even then, the post office does a better job within Canada.  Large orders to the US, ok, maybe, but $$$$ - 2-3 times what Fedex costs, and Fedex only takes a day or two longer.

Shipping to Canada is cost prohibitive in my field.
It is just way to expensive and although I have shipped to customers
in Canada in the past.

I stopped because shipping was more or close to the value of the product
and tracking was almost impossible before.

Didn't want to open up myself up to that whole " I didn't get it" BS either.

I charge the same rates to the US and Canada. For most of my items Airmail shipping to Canada is $1-$1.50 less than the 1 lb US Priority rate.  I like shipping to Canada 

a) Fedex is way cheaper

eBay/PayPal also announced support for Canada Post. Fedex is the only carrier eBay didn't announce a deal with yesterday. 

Canada Post today announced the launch of a new online shipping solution on eBay Canada, giving Canadian eBay and PayPal members access to Canada Post shipping services directly from eBay (www.ebay.ca) and PayPal (www.paypal.com) websites. Now, Canadian users listing items on eBay.ca or eBay.com can create, purchase and print Canada Post shipping labels with postage right from their computer, making shipping easier, faster and more efficient. There are no fees to use the online platform and the cost of postage can be paid conveniently through a PayPal account. Postage-paid packages can then be mailed at any post office or street letterbox.

Customers who use the online shipping solution receive savings of up to eight per cent on domestic rates and of up to nine per cent on US and international rates (excluding US and International Small Packet services). The new online shipping solution also automatically generates the required basic customs forms as part of the label printing process. Once the label is printed, both the buyer and seller can track the delivery status of the package (with traceable shipping services) online from www.ebay.ca (in My eBay) or a PayPal account.

  Boinktard.  Stop using an illegal method of calculating dimensional weight, then, maybe..  Oh, right, you're getting Weights & Measures Canada to finally publish the regulations to make your methods legal, years and years after the fact, now that one of your largest commercial customers has pointed out all over the place that what you're doing is and has been illegal..

Hmmm.  So why did they pick UPS and Canada Post then... ?  OK, UPS is fast.  Economical?  Neither are, compared to Fedex when shipping to the US.  Within Canada would be cheaper Fedex, except for the $2.00 residential delivery charge, that puts most packages that I've checked rates on, at $1-1.50 more than CP..  Reliable?  Well..  OK.  Maybe.

Oh, too bad the new PayPal shipping for eBay.ca has about 10x more glitches and problems than even the US PayPal shipping...  Maybe in a few years it'll get worked out.
