I wanted to revisit advertising and WP. Remember the reasons for not advertising were we don't have enough sellers, we don't have enough listings, it doesn't work etc...

Now look at Tazbar, they have already run a tv ad, and have a schedule of more ads that will be running. They didn't wait for a magic number of items, or sellers. The site was developed and tested for 3 years. There are rumors that they have investment monies backing them(most likely as they are already advertising).

They are right behind WP on PSU, and this is based in the UK, as is the advertising.

I am not a seller on Tazbar nor am I promoting them. I just wanted to make a comparison to their marketing approach and WP's non marketing/advertising approach.

I also realized that these advertisements just like Ebay are aimed squarely at the buyers. If the buyers show up you can bet the sellers will find out and come on their own. You don't need to market to the sellers, that is covered by word of mouth. The buyers are the ones that you have to bring in.

When you google tazbar the articles written about them are quite positive. WP is not the same story.

Wagglepop went live on May 16, 2006. Wagglepop has slightly over 10,000 members.
