A rough estimate of the number of overall main site listings can be calculated by adding the category counts from the main Browse page, and adding the approximately 35-40,000 Store Inventory listings to the total for a sitewide estimate.

Your scenario about Wagglepop developing primarily through niche markets is a good one, and that final dynamic will be determined by buyer behaviors and support. Maybe we'll become the best stop on the Web for postcards, or for paperback books, or something else.

That's a dynamic we are eager to see develop, in however it reveals itself

Except, didn't someone here say yesterday that the number via the categories is about 82K - giving a grand total of about 120K?   I didn't total the stores myself, I just used Karen's number

Karen apparently hasn't surveyed the competition to see how unlikely it is they'll become the best stop for either postcards or paperback books :imptongue:

POSTCARDS: Delcampe currently has 4,054,068 postcard listings (out of 8.2 million total listings)

BOOKS: umm, do the names Amazon, Alibris, and Abebooks ring a bell?  I know one seller on Amazon (Caiman_Com) who has 2 million items in their Amazon store and over 1 million feedback ratings (granted it's CDs not books but that is just one seller and there are many other huge sellers on Amazon who have more items in their stores than WP has on its entire site)

Whatever. No site owner is going to post a list of 8634 item numbers. I suppose that the folks who are desperate to disbelieve WP sales could go back through all of the item numbers that have been on the site to add up which have sold to see that the number is acurate. Sounds like a job for U1it4less with the assistance of Designers Bargains.

No powerseller it is not a job for myself or anyone else but Ray to prove that the WP sales report is accurate. If you choose to believe those numbers that is your prerogative. For everyone else it is up to them to believe what they want but keep in mind the stated sales report for WP claims that the site has about a 5.5% sell thru rate. Now that is what is most unbelievable if you ask me.

If anyone would care to discuss this further with me you know where I am, right here on TT. Oh by the way powerseller, unless you wish to prove your point with facts please refrain from including my posting ID for PSU in your posts on PSU. Your continued avoidance of posting accurate & factual information is not something I wish to have my posting ID included with. If you wish for me to investigate the sales report I will but your sarcastic posts aimed towards me and others will get you nowhere. If you continue with this tactic rest assured I will fire back with facts that will prove your so called great sales to be false and nothing more then aiding in Ray's scam.

The sales report is false advertising at it's finest. Those numbers benefit only Ray by deceiving potential sellers into believing the site is full of sales when in fact it isn't. This is just another way to deceive the sellers there.


Powerseller one last thing, accurate is spelt with 2 c's not 1 as in your post on PSU. Learn how to spell it and maybe we will accurately and then we will be able to accurately report the sales on WP.

Alskling, you got some karma from me.  I will get around to everybody...I promise.

Now I am facing the biggest dilemma in my life.  I've been offered a job in the outside world.  It pays a buttload of money.  I love my online work.  No way will both survive.

I know some of you work and continue with online sales, what do you think?

It's just a position where I get to be the boss, tell other people what to do and pad the college funds.  With the cost of higher education these days, it is really tempting to accept.

Would it be personally satisfying - yes and no.  I love that type of work, but there is no room for creativity.  I've worked there before from 1996-2001 but I burned out and left.
