Yes, I remember Lik M Aid. And Chiquita, peanut butter Space Food Sticks were my fave. How about Pop Rocks? Maybe everybody here is too young to remember the TRUE, ORIGINAL Flav-R-Straws. They came in regular cardboard straws, as I recall with an elbow.
Hey, has anyone here every owned a pair of P.F. Flyers, and can remember the commercial of the kid flying around this block after putting them on? I actually thought it was for real.

I was doing things backward. Mostly because I had an "auction" mindset. As I evaluated my results, and the results of other sellers working the alternative venues, I recognized a pattern of failure based on our methods. Moving from site to site has been, in some instances necessary. It's part of the process of finding channels that work for your business. It's problematic because each move involves time investment and the constant shifting makes it more difficult to brand, build and market your customer base.

What sellers need is a hub to work from. One where they're in complete control. When we base the center of our business on that of another site, our business is at the mercy of that site. We find ourselves constantly shifting gears to manage changing business plans and policies that usually have little to do with our plans and goals.

Full-time sellers should seriously consider setting up a an independent store as the hub of their business and use venues as additional sales channels and marketing. Many sellers have known and done this for years. All you need to is hang around the TulipTools forum for a few minutes to start getting the message. My own experience points in that direction. If anyone read the GlacierBayDVD interviews, you'll remember that he was adament that an independent store is the key to longjevity and success.

When you have your own store, customers always know where to find you. More importantly, they don't have to register at yet another site to make a purchase from you. You're not forced to start over everytime a site has a brain-fart or fails you altogether, or you decide associating with a site no longer suits your business plan.

And, there's a lot to be said for squeezing every percentage point of profit from your goods and labor. We can quickly increase profitability by 6% - 10% by dumping PayPal and the cost of selling goods through a venue, and a whole lot more if that venue happens to be eBay. For those who'll instantly balk at the cost of having your own store, you can use free with webspace from your ISP and Google Checkout buttons for a zero cost solution.

Having an independent store is not a one-size-fits-all solution for sellers, but for the majority it is a necessary component of a successful eCommerce venture.

Thanks Banana for sharing that. Bang On! I used to buy regularly from Glacier when he was on the Bay. I know he has his believers and retractors when it comes to the blogs and interviews he's left on the net. But his take on dodging the old venue switcheroo is spot on. If you have a focal point that is dependable and static, your own website, you can do wonders with it and hence all it's extensions.

One size can fit all. You just need the right pattern.

All new TT posters

For those of you who are interested in our inaugural ex-poppers meeting I will be at La Guardia airport wearing a t-shirt that says "Let the Truth be told" awaiting sherrand's arival on June the 2nd (time to be annouced at a latter date). All are welcome to attend the very first X-POP gathering including and hoping for any and all TT mods. No need for a hotel reservation as I am sure we will paint NYC red for one night only. We may even get a chance to tour the poopland who knows.
