My son said the same thing about finding an emergency vet........he has had to do that before with his little rat kids. Not a fun time when your loving pet is down, in fact, it's a horrible time! I haven't had any pets in the house for a long time and I can remember the pain when they get sick and/or pass away. That is neat Platz that you found a what did you call him......a mobile vet? Who comes to the house? Cool beans. I know it's a busy time for you guys, but I agree with the others, please get back here and update us as you can. We're all here for you.

Just to add... Dusty has been sick or sub-par health wise since he was two. He had a tumor on his head when he was two that was malignant and we spent thousands on surgery. He has also had thyroid problems and is on thyroid meds even now. He still had is good and bads days tho. His new thyroid meds that he started taking last year, put a new pep in his step and I have to say, he never looked, felt or acted better. Now that he is sick again, I wonder what to do. Bill and I just redecorated our house, we never saw this coming... we're low on funds now... our experience is the expense of the meds, surgery, etc... I have to ask myself... when is it enough? And, who am I doing it for... us or him? Does that sound heartless? I don't mean it too... these are the things that are rattling around in my brain today. He had a fabulous year up to now... he was like a different dog...

Damn it... why isn't that vet calling? If I could just get some prices from him, maybe we can start figuring out what the hell we can and can't do!!!!

Sorry to hear about Dusty, Platzki - been there, done that too, with my 17 yr old poodle-mutt Lucy. We all go through it, wondering, guessing, and second-guessing ourselves - never knowing what is exactly the right answer. As long as you love him - and it's so clear that you do - that's what counts. You will do the right thing.

I'm still here waiting for the vet to come... it's 3:40 here in PA and the vet said around 5.

Dusty's breathing is getting a little more labored and every so often it looks like he gets a pain spasm and he whimpers. I have him in the kitchen in case he throws up or has an accident so all day, I'm either laying on the floor with him or sitting on a hard kitchen chair. I can't even imagine how he feels. He's been laying there since last night.

I'm exhausted. I'll I've managed to swallow today was 6 peanut butter crackers, a yogurt and 2 pieces of lebanon bologna without bread. My mouth feels like sandpaper and I'm nauseous.

I just checked on my son. He is still sleeping so I don't even know how he's doing.

Okay, I wrote before I read anymore before - you've still got my heart out to you, but good to hear a vet's coming soon.

And about you being heartless - been there plenty myself. It's not heartless at all - you care and you're human. This is not just a dog - it's a family member you care deeply for. Nothing's an easy choice when it comes to deciding the big things when it involves a cared for on... just remember, there's mutual love and you will know what's best to do when the time comes to do any deciding.

I am so sorry to here that. I know it is the hardest thing to go through. If there is anything we can do let us know. We will be praying for you.
