osCMax tip: redirecting pages from your old directory to your new cart directory
Helpful tip that anyone whose cart isn't in the mydomain.com/ directory might find useful (search engine spiders included)
Let's say your cart is in the mydomain.com/oscmax/ directory. You can automatically redirect visitors and search engine spiders from the mydomain.com/ to mydomain.com/oscmax by creating a .htaccess file with the following line in the main / directory Code: redirect 301 /index.html http://www.mydomain.com/oscmax/index.php if that method doesn't work on your server you could try this alternate line: Code: RedirectMatch permanent ^/$ http://www.mydomain.com/oscmax/index.php You can permanently redirect other pages in the / directory in a similar manner Code: redirect 301 /oldproductpage.html http://www.mydomain.com/oscmax/newproductpage.php More info on using 301 permanent redirects: http://community.tuliptools.com/index.ph...ml#msg5934 |

Re: osCMax tip: redirecting pages from your old directory to your new cart direc
Glad you brought this UP regic. I've been concerned about this
because I decided to leave my files in the /oscmax/ MODE. Last time I tried to change over... I lost product info and some other strange things occurred.

I decided to leave my files in the /oscmax/ MODE.
I know. That's why I posted this. I looked at your site and saw the landing page. You can create a text file with that code in it, rename it .htaccess, and upload it to the xppman.com directory where the landing page is and it should work. You could add lines for the other old pages too so search engine visitors will be redirected to the new pages. |

OK cool. I've been doing so much it's hard to even understand some of what I already did.
I just want to make IT go. It's live too and I did a few things to the old pages but SEO is the main concern. I'm going to get w U IM style cause U R the guru here. Hope that's cool.

The new "xppman.com" is live.
Yea it is. Thanks to you regic. I really appreciate all the help you guys have given me. Now I'll just have to see how SEO friendly it will all be in the next few months. I was just telling a bud this below: These are numbers right after sponsored sites. Most search engines seem to be showing maybe 3 or 4 sponsored links than the websites. Just typing "wine glass rack" I'm number 5 and fifth in the visual search of MSN PAGE ONE I'm number 2 on Alta Vista. PAGE ONE after 5 sponsored links I'm number 2 on Yahoo. Went all the way to page 10 on Google but no me hmmm (but most results up through page 3 or so are NOT even wine glass racks. It's wine storage bins...so Google's search results are not being very relevant anymore on those key words above) ANYWAY: Typing in "hanging wine glass rack" I'm on page two on Google First site after THREE sponsored links. I'm number one on MSN and the Fourth visual web site seen so I'm again on page one. I'm numbers four and five on Alta vista's page 2 I'm on page TWO first site after three sponsored links in AOL I'm number ONE after 10 sponsored links on page one of Lycos I'm on page TWO of Look Smart I'm number ONE and TWO on Ask Jeeves after 4 sponsored links on PAGE ONE. I'm in pretty good shape me thinks at the moment concidering I pay for no CPC ads. and this is why I want to keep those old pages up too. That is what is indexed right now on the engines.

Re: osCMax tip: redirecting pages from your old directory to your new cart directory
It looks very nice.
"Well, Jay was so giddy that someone named Jay was involved with this site we posted our first non-eBay listing in 3 years here at Lunarbid (we tried two items at Yahoo once upon a time, they bombed)" -Marie posting in a LunarBid thread at OTWA in 2005 wins the award for 'most moronic reason ever given for choosing a venue"
"thanks twat u must have nothing better 2 do. do u talk to all your members like that. will not be recomending your site. best way to put it is TULIPTOOLS.COM IS REALLY SHIT. DONT JOIN." -pubescent owner of rinky dink off2auction.com in 2011 |

Thanks guys... you really think so?
Hey BBH I meant to thank you too. I don't remember all who replied to my IM helps but... I think Amy even got in on it too... so again thank all you guys for the help. Still some more tweaking to do on pics sizes and a few other areas, but I'm kind of liking it to. Umm Bell helped me pick out the curtains and decor.
