Does anyone here fathom WHY they would selectively display core and store items in a *round robin* sort of way? -- if that's truly happening as sellers are sorta describing.  What could be the physical reasons behind this?  [We could prolly stay up all night bantering about the psycho reasons..... ]

Lack of enough server space?
Bandwidth overloads?

What?

Server fatigue?

Lack of proper coordination?

Possibly cause Meg wants to buy back shares at a low low price
then move the whole site to the exciting NEW and Improved EE?

I am not a software or hardware person.  I'm kind of wondering if they got so big so fast, that their software AND hardware could not handle the traffic.  So, they decide, like, to show only 20% of the listings at any one time, constantly shifting items/areas in and out?  Total ignorant speculation here....

What??

I don't know that they are doing it.

Traffic could be down across the board on eBay. It could be the "novelty" of eBay has worn off--life cycle of a fad-- and there just aren't as many shoppers. It could be that the rampant fraud has caught up to eBay. Many shoppers won't be back after they get a mail box full of phising e-mails or they get hit with shipping fees that are through the roof. eBay is just confusing buyers with the Express thing.

I'm just glad I took the advice given here.  Signs001 . Kim

2 year charts:

daily pageviews (per million):
http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?&compare_sites=&y=p&q=&size=large&range=2y&url=ebay.com
way, way down from earlier in the year and 2005

daily reach (the number of users out of every one million Internet users who visit the site)
http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?&compare_sites=&y=r&q=&size=large&range=2y&url=ebay.com
31,000 of every 1 million Internet users visit eBay.  In 2005 the number never dropped below 35,000

I think the fad wore off years ago. Certainly for the auctions.

As for the lower page views--they are positively proven lower this year than last year, thanks to Amy's stats. We can assume that has something to do with the stores-kill process, Express, and the fee hike.

Re: Is eBay Intentionally Hiding the Listings of "Whiners & Complainers" from Search
Remember how my mom (the one who had never visited a bulletin board in her life) was getting an 80 - 90% sell-through rate? Like she was in a bubble?

Well.... since the new search "enhancement" was rolled out, wanna know what? She's sold about 2 items.

She had no idea why, since she never visits BBs. She thought people must have suddenly stopped liking her products.

SHE ALSO FOUND HER FIRST INVISIBLE ITEM. She noticed it hadn't sold twice in a row, so she watched carefully the third time around. No matter which keywords she looked for, or if she searched for the entire name--she never saw the item show up in the search. It showed up as "live" in My EBay but the counter showed less than 5 views after the week was up. It did not sell.

She asked me if that was common. Heh.

theantavius,
WARN your mom not to ask about it on the eBay Boards!!  eBay, LieWorld, and the cheerleaders are making sure that any post that is less then a glowing comment towards eBay is deleted.

eBay won't give their customers the services that they are paying for, but they won't allow it to be discussed either.

I think the poppers and the eBay cheerleaders share the same brain cells... or lack of.
