Re: Low-cost alternative payment methods touting greater security gain market share
I just clicked on an item to buy.
I see Google Check out is FIRST. I hate that they are doing / forcing that and stopped using them for that and a few other reasons I'm sure you have seen me post about before. I really wanted to add / keep GP as one of my options, but it just aint right how they are going about it IMO. Did you know if you have an issue they WILL go right into your bank account and take the funds... No questions asked?

Xppman, are you talking about my site?
I noticed that on the initial checkout page, it gives people the option to checkout, or checkout with Google Checkout. I'm not sure I like that, either, but it seems to be the default place it got "stuck" into. I'm researching how to change the checkout pages (they also seem very jumbled once you start going through the process).

Re: Low-cost alternative payment methods touting greater security gain market sh
Yes I did it via your site.
Dont worry I cleared the cart contents. You CAN'T change it. (according to GP) It would be VIOLATION of the GP agreement and they can and will suspend your account if you find a work around. To me the VIOLATORS are GP by FORCING their payment method ahead of others. Be aware that this by passes your cart all together & the customer is kicked directly to GP. BEFORE adding any information like name address e mail ect. Also the customer MAY opt to NOT show you thier e mail AFTER they make a purchase via GP. To me that also sucks. It's my customer NOT GP's. I feel I have a right to know thier e mail address if we are conducting business via the Internet.

PS... also they give your telephone number to your customer even though you have it checked as "do not give".
I had a customer call me after a purchase. I thought it was the TT peeps because of the numbers location and it was when I was having a site issue. I was rambling on to the lady about tech stuff and she's like "no I purchased an item from you and bla bla bla". I was shocked that SHE had my number, but just answered her questions.

Re: Low-cost alternative payment methods touting greater security gain market share
Interesting read guys and gals...
Here's some thought fodder and a question: We currently stand about 80% VISA/MasterCard, 15% PayPal and 5% Check/M/O. Who all is accepting Amex and about what percent of CC transactions does it account for? Just curious, because we've contemplated accepting Amex, but it costs more for us to accept (CSI). Tanx |

Re: Low-cost alternative payment methods touting greater security gain market sh
During my eBay days, I accepted Visa, MC, Discover, AMX (ProPay); CheckFree; Money Order and personal checks. Used BidPay the first time around. Cash was fine by me! Never a problem with any - only PayPal.
I wouldn't touch PayPal with a 10 foot pole. (won in class action lawsuit and enjoyed my settlement check). > I will probably continue to do the same on my website except may drop checks due to the holding period. I cannot arrive at the shipping $ until I have packaged and weighed the order due to all my variable products. I send a ProPay invoice and they handle the credit card. I never see any of the info. Check Free is an instant cash transfer from Bank to Bank - no fee. It's used more in Europe than here.
It is important to realize that each of us has a role in advancing my future.

On our websites we accept AMEX, VISA, MC and PP. On Overstock and Yahoo we also accept Google Checkout, Moneybookers, iKobo, and PPPay.com Instant. Amazon, Alibris, Half, and GEMM all have inhouse payment services. We're also using WorldPay on a couple of non-store websites that have a high percentage of international users. We stopped accepted money orders and cash in mid-2004. We stopped accepting checks in early 2002. |
