I think eBay has finally BROKE eBay enough that the big sellers are noticing all the carp.  A glitch here and there could easily have been missed before.  Not so much anymore.

I believe the seller was referring to more than just the cost, anyway--but if da lizard has ever tried to list 100,000 items at $0.10 a piece... you get the idea. Obviosusly he doesn't do lots of listings.

Hello again, I couldn't resist adding another 10cents worth since reading the posts after mine. Boy, some of you are up early over there. The content rang Bells with me and I've just done a bit of research......
I have two major selling ID's and way back in 2000 set up a Specialist Shipping Service with Royal Mail/USPS so that I can ship without using the UK internal System and likewise the USPS Port of Entry Mail system. A benefit of this system is that I can often ship from the UK at a lower price & quicker than for USPS internal Mail although it is hard work.To this end I have my own containers and ship twice monthly to each USA "Air Mail Centre", there are six in total. (sorry to bore you all) They are as zips follows:-

0,1,2..........New York
3.........Miami
4,5,6.........Chicago
7.....Dallas
8 to 935..........Los Angeles
936 to 9999.....San Francisco.

So what am I getting at, until earlier this year I could always say that New York zips would have the largest number of packets, followed by Chicago, then Dallas/Miami followed by the others in varied order.

That has all changed, not only is New York not always in first place but zips such as Miami & San Francisco have held first place as well. The lead seems to swap around in no real order, do you follow?

My hunch is that listings are being shown to American Buyers in selective areas at different times, not over all the USA. The fact that eBay use radial(?) servers means that they could well do this and this fact is borne out by the emails I get from my regulars asking where my listings have gone.

Checking back through my Mailing records this all started around the beginning of march and has been followed to the point of New York falling into a constant 4th 5th or 6th place most of the time.(Store & Auction content have not changed)

I have also noticed this to a lesser degree in the UK but it is of note that there are also wild swings in the UK and sometimes areas of sparse population have the most sales but a big area like greater London has none at all.

I don't think it is my imagination, what do you think, is this selective viewing possible???

If this data is revealing some goings-on by the eBay search and display system, it could either be a conscious act of selecitive showing (which might explain why some sellers don't see their own items, but others sellers don't have a problem with disappearing items) --OR, it's the result of the famous unintentional eBay lost item Bermuda Triangle, in action.

You're right, he doesn't do lots of listings.  I looked last month after he posted that and he was running under 20 auctions and his total sales for the previous 30 days were under $50.  If your monthly eBay bill is under $10 like his then it probably would be very easy to absorb an extra "nickel or dime".  ;D
