Is there any way to edit your files without having to delete and re-upload them to the host???
Yes. You can edit them through the file manager in the control panel. Quote:How do I edit my files? Guess I really am that dumb. But anyway it's so much faster to ask questions and get answers rather than trying to figure it out yourself. thanks! now, which cart should I use for my webstore in terms of ease and nice templates? I'm thinking either virtuemart, oscommerce, or zencart. Remember, I'm a newbie. |

Quote:virtuemart, oscommerce, or zencart. TH also offers cube cart. I don't know much about virtuemart, but I think ZenCart would be the easiest for you to get working on quickly. Or Cube Cart. Oscommerce has a much higher learning curve and can be really frustrating, but it is very flexible. The bummer thing about Zen Cart: customers must make a login account before they can place an order with your store. This may or may not be a good thing for your store, depending.

Re: I can't be this dumb!
There's links to demos of CubeCart, osCommerce, CRELoaded, osCMax, Joomla/VirtueMart, and ZenCart here:
http://community.tuliptools.com/index.ph...634.0.html Joomla/VirtueMart is the easiest to learn. CubeCart is also easy. The templates on Zen are the hardest to modify (xhtml and php). ZenCart and CRELoaded have the most features. CRELoaded and osCMax are modified versions of osCommerce. osCMax is very buggy and the documentation isn't very good. |

Quote:The bummer thing about Zen Cart: customers must make a login account before they can place an order with your store The account is created during checkout. The 'create password' field is the only extra info they fill out when placing their first order. EDIT: PayPal Express on the new 1.37 version lets PayPal buyers checkout without creating an account ( version 1.35 doesn't have this feature). Google Checkout buyers also can checkout without an account. |

Re: I can't be this dumb!
I've been browsing around these threads. Question about these things called mods - I'm assuming that means modifications, upgrades, etc. Am I going to be able to do these with free versions or am I eventually going to have to pay for something? Let's say, I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with virtuemart, to start with something easy. Can always change later or just learn as I go (I'm good at that hehe). It will be no problem for me to fork over a few dollars here and there to help keep my site going but I can't spend a lot, make sense??
oh and I see you all install virtuemart for free as well? how does that process work? I download the item, then what ? thanks yall! |

Re: I can't be this dumb!
As a general rule, some mods are free. Some are pay.
Some shopping carts have more free mods than pay mods. Oscommerce, for example, is mostly free, while Miva Merchant is mostly pay. I always try to find free mods for what I want first, then if all else fails, I buy.

Re: I can't be this dumb!
Quote:oh and I see you all install virtuemart for free as well? how does that process work? I download the item, then what ? With the free installations we upload the files to your server and install the cart for you. All you have to do is let us know where on your site you want it installed (i.e. the home page or in a directory like /store) Virtuemart comes with 8 templates but there are many free templates available from various sites. There are several mods included in the install version. There are more free mods available on the Virtuemart and Joomla sites. With Joomla/Virtuemart many mods can be installed through the admin by uploading the files and pushing an install button. Adding mods to Zen or osCommerce is harder and usually involves modifying code. |

Re: I can't be this dumb!
OK. Just say where on your site you want VirtueMart installed and we'll do it.
