Wah, wah wah! We liked the old groups format better! Boo hoo!

When eBay unveiled its new Groups platform July 10, it's not an understatement to say that members did not embrace the changes with a virtual group hug. In fact, since then, many Groups users have been extremely frustrated and bewildered with the changes, with some moving entire communities to the UK boards and others clamoring for a reinstatement of the old structure.

They were under the impression that eBay was going to add a few requested features to the old platform, such as the capability to e-mail individual members instead of a whole list, so when they logged on and found a whole new format, the changes were startling.

"Last year the Groups coordinator asked moderators and leaders if we wanted any changes, so we asked for a few simple things, like being able to e-mail a member and getting a notification when a member left the group," said Julie Ferguson, a Group member since 2005. "So people are upset because all of a sudden we got an entirely new platform, they didn't just add the new features to the old one. We didn't even know this was coming, they should have tested it first instead of springing it on us."...

Hi again everyone...I'm back with another update about eBay Groups. We've been working closely with Groups members to come up with new features and options that make it easier for them to personalize their Groups and connect with others. In July we introduced several of these improvements, and I'm pleased to be back here again with more to share.

Here are the highlights:

                      # A new Co-leader option. Group Leaders can designate a trusted co-leader who can access Leader-only functions, such as receiving requests to join.
                      # New Icons to help manage discussion threads. These new icons will designate threads as "new," "read," or "updated" along with other icons.
                      # Expanded fields on your home and welcome pages. You'll have room to include more content and information on both your Group home page and welcome page.
                      # "Preview" before posting. You'll be able to preview any edits you make to your Group polls before pushing them live.
                      # More customization options. New Group "skins" and backgrounds will be available, as well as a "story board" where members can share images and comments.

eBay Groups Unavailable from 4 p.m. to midnight (Pacific time) on October 30
eBay Groups will be taken offline from approximately 4:00 p.m (PT) to midnight (PT) on Tuesday, October 30th so we can add these upgrades. Once they're back online, go in and check out the new features. Enjoy!
