Quote:What kills me is one of the sellers in the survey thread listed only 3 sales total (this year!), BUT in the e-pet cheerleading thread they say, "I am here for the long haul!". WTF?!?! I would have been gone the first week. |
OT... anyone have a PSU hosted storefront? If so... opinions? Thanks Guys!!
You can download the same Joomla/VirtueMart software they use for free and install it on any website. PSU locks many of the files so your ability to make modifications is limited. PrincessM tried VirtueMart and dumped it in favor of CRE Loaded. Read the 2 threads here to see why: http://community.tuliptools.com/index.ph...288.0.html VirtueMart demo here: http://demos.tuliptools.com/joomla/
Platz, I liked VirtueMart's look, but the forums on VirtuMart and Joomla are dead and I couldn't get anywhere. Seemed really glitchy. So I switched to CRELoaded because Kirk (webgraphicssource) helped me a LOT, but regic was really helpful with Virtuemart too, I just find that CRELoaded is much more user friendly. I'm sure PSU would be fine, they would help you and you'd get a nice looking running store, but you'll be paying $9.99/mo indefinitely (unless it goes up). And if you want to change hosts, you will have to reconfigure a whole new site, and possibly install a cart anyway. I'd opt for getting your own hosting. (Via Tuliphosting of course) and get a free cart installed. Based on what I've heard, I'd recommend Zencart or CRE Loaded. :turkey2: |

Quote:I liked VirtueMart's look The default template is better looking than the default osCommerce/CRE/Zen templates but in terms of features VirtueMart is really lacking compared to the other free carts. You might not need the extra features of CRE/Zen today, but as your store's business grows you probably will and switching carts would be an extreme pain for an established store. Quote:I'm sure PSU would be fine, they would help you and you'd get a nice looking running store, but you'll be paying $9.99/mo indefinitely If you want a 3rd party hosted cart that's easy to setup you should think about ShopPal or even NetFirm's CommercePro (which is actually osCommerce with a few modifications). Both are about $15 monthly and have a lot more features than VirtueMart. Quote:And if you want to change hosts, you will have to reconfigure a whole new site That's the biggest drawback to 3rd party hosted carts. You can't take them with you...kind of like an eBay store

"thanks twat u must have nothing better 2 do. do u talk to all your members like that. will not be recomending your site. best way to put it is TULIPTOOLS.COM IS REALLY SHIT. DONT JOIN." -pubescent owner of rinky dink off2auction.com in 2011 |

I still swear by Zen.
I know there can be quite a learning curve, but the forums are super helpful and several of us here have Zen Carts. And the templates can be nicely modified I've found.
