Quote: This was my first foray into the world of online selling

That is what Ray and other forum spamming BS spewing small auction site owners target: sellers who are either inexperienced or eBay sellers who have little/no experience with the off-ebay auction world.

It is also why many of us are so negative on many/most small auction sites...because we learned similar lessons many years ago during past ebay seller revolts and have watched during each subsequent "revolt" as new "Rays" recruit each batch of disgruntled sellers who ultimately end of going back to eBay.

There are alternatives to eBay but you're unlikely to find them by listening to a BS'ing auction site owner who has time to spend spamming forums (and you're unlikely to find them by listening to a small auction site's cheerleaders that are trying to recruit in auction forums)
"Well, Jay was so giddy that someone named Jay was involved with this site we posted our first non-eBay listing in 3 years here at Lunarbid (we tried two items at Yahoo once upon a time, they bombed)" -Marie posting in a LunarBid thread at OTWA in 2005 wins the award for 'most moronic reason ever given for choosing a venue"

"thanks twat u must have nothing better 2 do. do u talk to all your members like that. will not be recomending your site.
best way to put it is TULIPTOOLS.COM IS REALLY SHIT. DONT JOIN." -pubescent owner of rinky dink off2auction.com in 2011

BBH, truer words were never spoken. I would venture that 99% of recruits fall in either category. I was in the second.
I've learned my lesson. I'm totally cynical about anybody hyping any site.

I have to wonder how much longer the sellers at wp will continue to sit tight and obey the posting rules.  They have lost sales reports.  If they were angry at ebay and the way it was run, surely they can't sit still and get into another venue where their feelings and hard work mean nothing once again.  Maybe we shall see another revolution before long.  Smileyfencing

Hello Members,

I think this subject deserves some clarification.

The change to "monthly" (by calendar month) refers only to the interval used for issuing updates to the Sales Reports.

Each monthly report will continue to include the weekly breakdown for that month.

There are a myriad of changes scheduled thoughout the first quarter of 2007 and many added staff responsibilities related to that.

This necessary change will help us to better allocate our extremely limited personnel resources as we increase the daily workload for all staff in support of those changes Smile

Karen - WP Customer Care

That "myriad of changes" had better be pretty dynamic.  The natives are getting restless.

What staff?  Ah, I remember, KaRayChristineAndrew

Re: Wagglepop 2: Deja Vu as Auction Site That Left Sellers Stranded Reopens
Here's a real gem:

Quote:Morning All!

Lots of new items in the store!

I'm having an after Christmas shipping special! For outside customers, it's Buy $100.00 worth of books, and shipping to the US & Canada is free.

For other Wagglepop store owners, I've dropped the threshold to $75 for free shipping.

Large book sets/lots are excluded from the promotion, due the excessive weight but all single books are included.

This special will end on January 15th, 2007.

What a way to drive off potential buyers from outside.  Boinktard  Hellllooooooooo seller - buyers have to register and they would (if they are smart) read the share your wares thread.  Buy from you - NO WAY.  You should be offering the discount to anyone who comes from the outside world.

Drink some more  Smileykoolaid and make any  Confusedarcasm1: outside customers jump at the chance to save money with you.

Oh, please, Karen. How much time does it take to transfer the weekly numbers that YOU ALREADY HAVE down in black on white on the sales report? One minute?

Re: Wagglepop 2: Deja Vu as Auction Site That Left Sellers Stranded Reopens
Quote:Just a reminder that you'll notice quite a few changes, introductions, and launches over the next few weeks and all throughout the first quarter of 2007:

> Marketing Campaign rollout (Ads in the local Pennysaver)
> Wagglepop Checkout integration(in order for an item to be paid for immediately, the rscript software has to be tweaked, about 65.00hr per rscript's forum)
> Resources portal(freebie all labor is probably going to be done by the poppers )
> We The People Program intro(freebie, all labor by the poppers, placating to the cheerleaders)
> Wagglepop Stuff merchandise portal(Income revenue generator for Ray, including a nice tax write off as site advertising
> Email Newsletters and Promotions feature(turning on rscript feature)
> Wanted Items feature(turning on rscript feature)
> Buying & Collector Guides feature(turning on rscript feature)
> Introduction of new member status/rank icons(turning on rscript feature)
> Expansion to more locations(turning on rscript feature which can include multilingual capacity and currency conversion tool)
> Upgraded Registration process including instant worldwide phone and location verification(this will require Ray calling all new registering users to verify they are who they say they are. I can't remember the site, but another small auction site uses this as a means to verify users. Other methods have used paying paypal a 1.00 in order to be instantly verified.)
BOLDING IS MINE
As you can see none of these are new features. Why is WP the only rscript site that witholds the full functionality of the software program? All other rscript sites had all features activated out of the gate. See Ray can hold onto them and slowly activate them, and take all the credit including telling the poppers "see we listen to you, blah blah blah." The only feature that will cost money is to change the invoice in order for a buyer to pay instantly. The current rscript software doesn't allow this.

:Smile

OK again what personnel, Ray we know you are a one man show. Maybe your brother helps out by deleting those pesky posts, but come on. Now the daily workload increase, it will take more time to call folks to say hey are you Mrs. Smith?, than any of the other so called changes. The wagglemugs, and wagglepads are already ordered. All Ray has to do is take some photos, and he is good to go.

I call this strategy keeping em on the hook, ensuring Ray's monthly income will keep coming in, and implementing the marketing (spam) strategy to reel in new blood from the bay.  :blinkie:

Wasn't the "marketing campaign" creating press releases? I don't remember anything that involved paid ads of any kind, do you?

They said something about Google AdWords ads too.

NEWSFLASH TO RAY's DISCIPLES-- AdWords don't bring a ton of traffic.  Many of the completely free small auction sites also have run AdWords--even EEEEEWAY has run them (last time I checked EEEEEEWAY receives no traffic and has fewer listings than our largest ZenCart store :blinkie: ).  Press releases bring a bump in traffic that lasts a few days but that's it.
