Sounds ridiculous to me... thats like me saying you have to have a "Fabulous For Less" toolbar to be counted when visiting my site... ... some people know just enough to be dangerous... ...geez...
The Alexa ranking are based on the toolbar. From their "About Page" Quote:Alexa could not exist without the participation of the Alexa Toolbar community. Each member of the community, in addition to getting a useful tool, is giving back. Simply by using the toolbar each member contributes valuable information about the web, how it is used, what is important and what is not. This information is returned to the community as Related Links, Traffic Rankings and more. That's why some people will dismiss it as not presenting an accurate picture. But, to me, its like any other 'survey'. You're only going to speak with a certain amount of the population but you can make general assumptions based on the answers you get.

Hey, can any of you "techies" answer this question? Is it true that your PC has to have the Alexa toolbar on it in order for it to be "counted" as a visit to a site on the Alexa stats? Some Poppers are claiming that Alexa stats are bogus because if this "requirement".
DB, I saw the posts you are talking about and from what I can see they want to have it both ways. Talk about the alexa numbers when they benifit WP and don't talk about them when they show little to NO TRAFFIC. On the other hand the way alexa explains how they get there numbers is very vague. There is nobody disputting that yahoo is #1 or google is #3 and right on down the line until you get to wagglepop. Amazon from what I can see owns alexa. Don't be mislead that the only toolbar that alexa bases there stats on is the one you see on the alexa site, that is not the case. There are many toolbars that have the alexa software running in them. The VMN toolbar is one example. The alexa rank for WP is what it is because of the lack of advertising and the complete idiot who owns WP. Look at the listing counts for the people who are claiming those sales on WP. Check back at those listing counts again in a few days every now and then and you will see that there claims about sales are completely fudged. let the truth be told u1it4less - "it's all in the name.." |

Re: Wagglepop 2: Deja Vu as Auction Site That Left Sellers Stranded Reopens
Wait... I still think that if Alexa monitors the sites, then Alexa is the one that sets up the counts for those particular sites. In other words... if I monitor all of my hits from central location, the visitor wouldn't need a toolbar for me to be able to see their visit.
What am I missing here?? |
I asked this, because some cheerleaders are now spamming other boards poo-pooing the horrible WP Alexa reports claiming that contrary to the stats, WP is getting tons of traffic with this new "marketing blitz" but it just so happens there's no way to count it. I'm still confused on this. Or should the stats be used as comparison. In other words, since a certain percentage of visits are not showing on WP, the same percentage is not showing up on other sites as well, so the stats may not be numerically accurate but are still statistically accurate. Help me out on this. |

Re: Wagglepop 2: Deja Vu as Auction Site That Left Sellers Stranded Reopens
The new alexa numbers are out so here is the link.
http://alexa.com/data/details/traffic_de...glepop.com The funny thing about this is the alexa stats support everything we have been saying for a long time. The numbers reflect the loss of over 600 stores, thousands of listings and lack of advertising. Those are facts and the alexa numbers support the facts. Anyone who disputes those facts is blinded by Ray's scam. negative growth = negative growth in alexa rank let the truth be told u1it4less - "it's all in the name.." |

Quote:The store count dropped, has the post been pulled yet? Which store was it and how many items went poof? I must be lossing it the past few stores that closed slipped by me. I still have a list though that I am watching that are delisting. It was bikinilingerie with 14 items at the time they closed today. The post is still there but no one has stopped in to say goodbye or wish them luck. Ray must be occupied training his new hamster. Did you catch tweeny? They left too.

Anybody know how many WP listings are showing up on Froogle? Seems I remember somebody reporting there were 70-thousand-something, but I can't find it.
