The definition of a "non-profit" is very clear, and this statement is right on the money. I won't be surprised if they soon find the IRS on their doorstep. Really stupid people managing that organization apparently.

his own private company owns ECMTA, which markets to PESA members and is piggy-backing on the PESA summits. I find this troublesome

I find ECMTA's $299 annual fee troublesome.  Charging that much for membership to a chat board and a package of discounts (most of which can be obtained elsewhere for free) is a ripoff.  ECMTA has always reminded me of WebLoyalty/ReservationsRewards

Members of the Internet Merchants Association (IMA) say the Board of Directors and the Ethics Committee butted heads in recent days. The organization is composed of eBay and online sellers. Some members say the tensions began when the Board overruled the committee's decision in an ethics matter and failed to act transparently, and a few have said they believe the group may be in danger of disbanding...

It's ironic that the current tensions at IMA revolve around transparency issues. The IMA was formed in 2006 by several members of the Professional eBay Sellers Alliance (PESA) who had a problem with what they said was a lack of transparency on the part of the PESA board...

LMFAO at AsWas the eBay Solutions provider whining because some IMA members bash Ebay and encourage sellers to  leave Ebay.

Amazon doesn't allow individual templates (THANK GOD!) so I'm sure most eBay designers whose business depends on eBay aren't too happy to see sellers moving over there or encouraged to diversify their selling channels (or to hear eBay bashing) because an exodus to Amazon or other channels isn't in the average eBay designers' best interests.

It's ironic but it was to be expected when you consider that one member of the IMA board played a key role in the lack of transparency that surrounded the PeSA/Ethical extender tool debates a few years ago.

What is wrong with joining trade groups?

Everything if it is a general trade group and the only common denominator between sellers is online selling. Online selling isn't a trade or industry.  It's a medium used by everyone from large corporations to stay at home moms.

A category or industry specific trade group would be less likely to implode.
