Collectively our industry will begin to pay tens of millions in extra fees this fall for no bona fide reason. Actual expenses going down but someone got a sweetheart deal at the expense of everyone.  Extra fixed costs. Extra overhead for no reason other than we failed to fight the fight. I hope we learned something. They don’t deserve to get away with this ever again...

Yesterday, more than 300 individuals packed the ballroom at the Hyatt Grand Central in NYC to bid on some of the world's most premium domain names at the culmination of T.R.A.F.F.I.C NYC, the leading domain name industry conference. The auction was hosted by Moniker.com, the first and only provider of Domain Asset Management™, who also brokered the sales.

During intense live bidding, CreditCheck.com and its associated Web site FreeCreditCheck.com sold for U.S. $3 million combined while Seniors.com sold for $1.8 million...

In total, the event netted over $10 million; final figures are currently being validated.

DNJournal has a recap of T.R.A.F.F.I.C. East.  The article fails to mention that I attended the conference. 

Walking into that room was like stepping into a tub of water with a  20,000 volt live wire in each hand. There were more new faces than I've ever seen at a domain conference, including well-funded new investors as well as a surprisingly large number of professional women (a group that has traditionally been in short supply in what has been a male-dominated business). This was a very welcome development. The new blood drawn to New York brought fresh ideas and the combination of that element with the expertise of the industry's old hands created a truly unique environment - an environment that I believe will end up yielding major dividends for this industry in the months ahead...
