Lur-Kist, Would you care to explain your avatar? As an animal lover, I find it a bit disturbing.
No not really. But I will... It was a joke email I received once and I thought it was cute that an obviously very young kitten would hold his hands up long enough for someone to take a picture of it. Perhaps you'd like to know that the current avatar is my newest pet, strayed up this winter pregnant. I paid big dollars 5 weeks ago to take her to the vet on a Friday evening to have a c-section when she couldn't have #5. I've taken countless kittens and mommas and strays and fed them and found them homes. I currently feed at least 3 cats who won't come near me but they come to eat. I don't sit around and shoot cats, birds, or any other living animals. Insects are another story. But hey, if you really want, I could send you some. Did I mention, I have a nice sized bat house?
Lur-Kist, I truly hope you take this in the spirit that I'm attempting to convey and not as a put down. That little kitten has been on the net for years in various forms of photo-manipulation - that same image is also portrayed as sitting there on the same window sill playing a banjo. Animal rescuers and lovers do find those manipulations very offensive - though animals think and feel, they have no voice except through us. When we see images such as that one, we die a thousand deaths. Violence towards animals is rampant world-wide and, of course, we feel that we must speak out. Violence has no place in jokes - rather it be human or animal.
Lur-Kist I have that same picture saved on my machine. And another one of the tables turned where the cat is holding the gun. I love you kitty stories too but then I'm not impartial to felines.
I'm not impartial to felines - I have more of them because my town has a very strict dog law. We don't have any stray dogs. The town had absolutely no rules on cats and there have been no comlaints on the cat population. My kids all have dogs and they bring them over all the time. You'll have to share that picture someday - I'd love to see it.

I'm not a violent person. Sorry if the picture offended anyone. I won't display it again. DB - I apologize for being rude to you. I took your post to me rather rude. For someone who types much on other subjects, you didn't take much time to explain to me that this picture might offend animal activists and rescue people. Perhaps it didn't occur to you that it might not occur to another animal lover that this picture might have been offending.

In defense of DB, sometimes things hit us to where we're speechless. It's wonderful that you take in so many homeless cats and kittens - I just wish there were more of you. Perhaps then I could rescue more, myself. Right now I'm full up and no matter what the circumstance, am unable to bring in any more. Craig and I, too, have several bat houses on our property. Kudos to you for providing a good home for those needy cats in your city!
Vas/Verve is the one who is trying to make this decision. Near as I can tell, most of them are newbies / ones who didn't post much / or new to me. I'll go check the boards later if no one else does.

Lur-Kist,
I simply asked you to explain the avatar. What's so rude about that? It didn't make sense to me and for that reason, I found it disturbing. A picture of someone holding a gun to a kitten with its little paws in the air seemed just too weird, especially coming from someone who I know is compassionate toward animals. So don't get all defensive about it. |
