Maybe someone should clue the boinktards in that using a registered trademark owned by one of your competitors (Etsy) to sell products, which is what they're doing by using the word 'Etsy' as a category, is going to result in Etsy hitting them and the boinktard mod maker with trademark infringement lawsuits...and guess what idiots, fake LLCs do not offer any protection from liability in a real court room.

The trademark on the word Etsy covers online auction services and practically every other aspect of ecommerce from use on sites with 3rd party sellers to use on sites offering feedback systems..
Quote:    ETSY
Goods and Services  IC 035. US 100 101 102. G & S: computerized on-line ordering featuring general merchandise and general consumer goods; exchange services, namely bartering general merchandise and general consumer goods of others; providing an on-line commercial information directory; providing a searchable database in the field of business information available via a global computer network; providing a searchable on-line advertising guide featuring the goods and services of other on-line vendors; database management services; advertising services, namely providing advertising in the nature of on-line and electronic classified directories; electronic auction services via the internet; on-line auction services; providing a website featuring evaluative feedback and product ratings of consumer services of others in the field of rating sellers' goods and services, the value and prices of sellers' goods and services, buyers' and sellers' performance, delivery, and overall experience in connection therewith. FIRST USE: 20050601. FIRST USE IN COMMERCE: 20050601

Etsy also has 2 other registered trademarks on the word 'Etsy" - all of them apply to ecommerce sites like PH and ASs.

I'm breaking out the popcorn to watch the boinktards squeal when the C&Ds arrive.

OH!! That's funny!! While Etsy was busy writing a business plan, securing investors, actually marketing (the name is everywhere from trade publications to people talking in the street) and improving the site for sellers and a better buying experience someone actually spent their time and some money to  suck some free traffic off of Etsy's efforts.

I looked at one of the Etsy items and it's "free" if you pay the sellers Etsy fees and shipping. It's some weird convoluted form of ecommerce. RUN AWAY LITTLE SELLERS!! RUN LIKE THE WIND!!

I had no idea...

Just like I have no idea how "tags" got attached to my previous post. Is that automated or was my posted edited?
Never mind my question about tags. Evidently posts are edited by admin or mods.  I just clicked "add a tag" and received the message that I'm not allowed to add a tag.
Quote: Just like I have no idea how "tags" got attached to my previous post. Is that automated or was my posted edited?

The tags are automatically added to the first post on every page of a topic.  The old version of the mod we used until December added them at the bottom of every page.

The tags mod gives 'add tags' permissions only to the person who starts a topic (plus admins and mods).

The lawsuit was filed at the end of March and opened the flood gates for a ton of twitter related lawsuits by others.

I'm gonna' dig around SMF and add this to my forum...which I'm in the midst of upgrading. The upgrades for SMF and WordPress come fast and furious! Magento's hot to trot, too!

Thanks, Regic!

Simply amazing. I've learned from eCommerce to keep the damn sock on except when you're actually doing business. Expressing an opinion and, heaven forbid, telling the truth can cause more personal trouble than it's worth. Hell, even with a sock on. Anyone read the Skank Suit?

If the rinky dinks weren't so damn broke they'd be running legal cases just to get some attention to themselves. Ewwww. Hush mah mouth, huh!?! It's not like they need new unethical ideas!

The intelligent thing to do when you're writing an importer mod would be to map Site A's categories to your existing category structure.  It would provide a much better buyer experience for shoppers than having to wade through tons of unrelated items in a 'from other venues' category...but wait, I forgot, the phrase 'buyer experience' isn't in the vocabulary of any PHP Pro Bid site owner because if it was they wouldn't be using a buyer unfriendly POS script like Php Pro Bid.

It's definitely designed to suck some search engine traffic off the well known Etsy name, and it's definitely trademark infringement.

summary: idiots do a million times more damage to their reputation by filing asinine lawsuit than tenant did by tweeting about them.

And it's definitely going to earn users legal problems. I believe  Etsy is preparing to go mainstream with serious marketing (there was a video contest in the spring, prolly use 'em for commercials this fall) and  won't much appreciate the stowaways.
